Making migrants’ voices heard is the common thread throughout the activities that will take place during 18th December, International Migrant’s Day. And this is precisely what is at the heart of Radio 18-12: a global radio show to celebrate International Migrant’s Day 2006.
We hope to make this experience as pleasant and exciting for all of you, so here is a quick overview of what you will find on this site and how you can take part:
Home page:
Radio18-12’s home page functions as the “à la carte” menu for the rest of the site, highlighting the exciting things happening on the site at the time you are visiting, the most interesting audios, the thought-provoking blogs, the topical polls, and much more…
About section:
Well you are there now! This will give you a bit more background on who is behind Radio 18-12, why we thought this was an important project and the other initiatives that December 18 is regularly involved in.
Resources:
- Most resources regarding migration are available on www.december18.net. We strongly recommend that you visit the site to find out more about international migration. In the New Year, Radio 18-12 will become a full part of the December 18 website and access to key resources will be available from this section.
- Two contact sheets available for download to tell us about your activities during. Whether you will be producing a radio programme, or organising activities and events during 18th December, we very much want to hear from you. This information will allow us to promote your activities in advance and to help you reach out to a wider audience.
- A list of activities and contacts for groups organising activities or broadcasting is also available on this section, so you can find out “who is doing what where?” and link up to local initiatives, or which radio will broadcast on migration in your area.
- Radio18-12 Jingles in various languages are available for you to download, broadcast or adapt to your needs. Scripts for the jingles are also available.
Radio:
This is where it’s at! Radio programmes broadcasted in the run up and during 18th December 2006 will be made available on this section from radio contributors around the world that have committed to broadcast at least one programme on migration during that day.
- Anyone can read, browse and listen online to any programme on Radio 18-12, but only registered users will be able to download, upload radio content and create podcasts and playlists. Whilst adding comments and voting on polls is currently allowed for registered and non-registered users of the site, Radio18-12 editors reserve the right to change access to these functions at any time and to take down any content deemed offensive or promoting violence or giving way to spam.
- To become a register user lick on Create a New Account in the User Login box on the left handside. A login and password will be sent to your email. Once you have your login and password, just enter them in the log-in box and you will be able to create audio content.

Media Corner:
This section contains information relevant to any media interested in the Radio18-12 initiative, with an FAQ on the Radio 18-12 initiative and December 18, contact details, listing of events that you might want to link up to and contacts for interviews. Additionally, media related content produced by Radio18-12 is available there, such as interviews about the project, media releases and any press coverage of the project.
Blogs:
There are various blogs around the site, from a simple diary blog from the Radio18-12 team to which you are most welcome to participate by sharing on your own activities and thoughts on International Migrants Day, to opinion pieces and interviews. You are welcome to comment but to ensure that you don’t miss on these events (the guest blogs will be open only for 24 hours during 18th December), we suggest that you keep up to date with Radio18-12 and register to our mailing list: http://lists.december18.net/mailman/listinfo/radio18-12 .
